Literacy Aims

Children & Adults will:

  • Develop the necessary skills to use and understand the English language confidently, appropriately and accurately to the best of your ability.

  • Be equipped with the linguistic skills and confidence to make sense of themselves and the world around you.

  • Develop an awareness of the interrelationship of all the skills of English.

  • Speak clearly, fluently and cogently.

  • Listen to the spoken word attentively, with understanding, pleasure and empathy.

  • Read from a range of materials fluently and with understanding, for enjoyment and information.

  • Write effectively for a range of audiences and purposes, using spelling, punctuation and syntax accurately and confidently.

  • Use their proficiency in one of the English skills to improve the quality of their work in other areas.

Numeracy Aims

Mathematics is a tool for everyday life. It is a whole network of concepts and relationships, which provide a way of viewing and making sense of the world. It is used to analyse and communicate information and ideas and to tackle a range of practical tasks and real life problems. It also provides the materials and means for creating new imaginative worlds to explore.

Children & Adults will:

·         Develop a positive attitude towards mathematics and an awareness of the fascination of mathematics.

·         Build on and be able to apply their mathematical knowledge, concepts and skills.

·         Become numerate thinkers.

·         Apply their knowledge and skills to solve increasingly complex problems.

·         Use mathematics to reason and explain, to think logically and to work systematically and accurately.

·         Be able to work both independently and in cooperation with others.

·         Be able to use and apply mathematics across the curriculum and in real life.
